A Love Story Started It All

Wayne and Gerri Hillman met in the spring of 1959.  He a young man of 20. She was a young lady of 17.  At that time Wayne was serving in the Canadian army, and a few months after their meeting, he was dispatched to Germany to serve at a Canadian army post there.  Upon completion of his time in the spring of 1961, he returned to Canada.  Shortly afterward they became engaged, and married on November 4, 1961.

As all young newlyweds lay out plans for their future, among their dreams was one that sometime during their journey through life they might come upon something that would enable them to make a difference in this world and perhaps leave it a better place.

Upon his return from Germany, Wayne secured a job at a hospital as a surgical technician, and during his time there he came across information that piqued his curiosity and intrigued him. The topic that he became very interested in was that of sea vegetation and the powerful nutrients it contained. He did a lot of research with the inner thought that someday he would like to be more deeply involved in that topic.

Gerri Began to Have Health Challenges

As time has a way of moving forward, and with the responsibility of the three children they were blessed with, this intriguing topic was set aside in his mind. Then in the late 1970’s, Gerri began experiencing some health challenges. It was found that she had a chronic problem with anemia, and symptoms of a very early menopause became evident. As these symptoms progressed, life became more and more difficult. Headaches became a constant part of her daily life. Her weight began slipping, and along with that her energy level diminished.

Every day became a challenge for her. In spite of several years of seeking medical help, there didn’t seem to be anything that could correct her health problems. She developed all the symptoms of chronic fatigue, and life became more and more difficult.

As Wayne watched her health deteriorate, the topic that so intrigued him years before resurfaced. He began feeling so strongly that the powerful nutrients in sea vegetables might help to restore her health. He became fascinated with the project of developing a way for her to be able to consume a combination of these nutrient-rich plants. With some outside formulation guidance, the product that
we know today as Body Balance was developed and Gerri began consuming what she now refers to as “a miracle from the seas.”

Gerri's Health Got Better

Within two weeks, Gerri began feeling some changes. As she expresses it, “I literally felt life seeping back into my body.” The headaches she was plagued with diminished then disappeared. Her energy level began its return, and because she was feeling better, her appetite renewed and she began paying more attention to the quality of foods she was consuming.

The topic of health and nutrition began to play an important part in her life.  She states, “When you are given a second chance at something as important as quality of life, you realize that one can have all the riches of the world, but without good health, the ability to enjoy them is just not there.

"The most important gift that we can give ourselves is the gift of proper nutrition.  I firmly believe that if you give the body what it needs, it has the ability to overcome its challenges. In my eyes, I am a perfect example of that.  I will be eternally grateful for the opportunity given to me to consume a product so powerful in nutrients that I now am entering my senior years with ongoing, vibrant health.  Body Balance will forever be a daily part of my diet.”

As the months passed by and she found herself once again enjoying all the wonderful benefits of good health, that dream of so long ago re-entered her mind. It was that dream of finding something that would enable her and Wayne to make a difference and leave their mark upon this world.

With renewed energy and the excitement of finding a way to share this powerful product, one evening she and Wayne sat at their kitchen table to discuss how they might go about distributing this “miracle from the seas.” Their initial thought was to put it into the hands of doctors who might recommend it to their patients. Her own doctors had marveled at her recovery.

Doctor's Signature is Born

Late in the year of 1984 their company, which they chose to name Doctor’s Signature, was formed. In the beginning, Gerri worked with their daughter Marjorie in organizing the business and they set up an office in their garage. Gerri explains, “At first we tried contacting doctors by phone with the hope of setting up an appointment to share with them this product that we believed so much in.

It didn’t take long to realize that this would not work. We then decided to take information to the doctors, so we had some flyers printed up and began distributing them at medical offices andhospitals.” It was in mid-1985 that Wayne decided to put his full time efforts into their dream, and so he joined in the business operations and in distributing the information. He states with a smile, “We were thrown out of some of the best medical facilities in San Diego.”

Throughout the discouraging days, their persistence did not diminish because every once in awhile someone would show an interest in wanting to try their product. Because they did not have the means at the time to manufacture Body Balance, they contracted with an outside manufacturer to handle that facet of the business. Over time, Doctor’s Signature began to grow.

Dr. Saccoman Was a Tremendous Help

The real boost to their business came one day when they knocked on the door of the San Diego Clinic of Preventive Medicine and were introduced to Dr. William J. Saccoman, M.D. He warmly invited them in and sat down to learn about what they had to offer.  He was very much interested and asked to try the product.

Several days later he called and said he had done some testing on their product and was extremely interested in recommending it to his patients. He states, “Body Balance is the most powerful nutrient rich product I have ever come across in my many years of medical practice.”

He encouraged Wayne and Gerri to advertise in specific medical magazines and journals and gave them permission to use his name, which is widely known throughout the country in the preventive medicine arena. With his endorsement, and their new method of advertising, Doctor’s Signature began a tremendous growth period that extended into the 1990’s.

As time and business progressed, they added other products to their line including the Colon Cleanse Program, Taheebo Tea, and the Herbal Body Wrap. These remained the product line for Doctor’s Signature and through the years, thousands of healthcare practitioners used and recommended Body Balance and the other Doctor’s Signature products.

It was during these years that they moved from their garage office into a facility that allowed them to begin their own product manufacturing.  In 1995, they began seriously thinking about another method of distributing their products so that they might reach even larger numbers of the country’s population.

Life Force International Opened Doors

Several methods were taken into consideration and the chosen one was referral marketing. In January of 1996, the doors of wholesale marketing to healthcare practitioners were closed and the doors of Life Force International opened. Doctor’s Signature remains today the parent company of Life Force, and Dr. Saccoman remains as the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board, although he has retired from his own medical practice.

As Wayne and Gerri state, “Our sincere and heartfelt love and gratitude go out to Dr. Saccoman for the many years of his life spent promoting alternative methods of healthcare, and for his belief in us and our desire to share a miracle product that was put into our hands to deliver to the world.”
